Re: Building PCBoards
After about 28 days the following arrived: http://www.roastgeek.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/DSCN0384-1024x768.jpg http://www.roastgeek.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/DSCN0391-1024x768.jpg http://www.roastgeek.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/DSCN0390-1024x768.jpg http:...

Re: Fresh Roast SR500 Coffee Roaster Computer
It's been some time since I posted here. I've got several programs going between Arduino and PIC32 but mostly I've been working on Arduino for the past year. I've got a lot of boards floating around and had started to try to get "customization" through a menu going on the arduino. This req...

Re: Building PCBoards
Commenting further I've since completed a few boards and sent them off for making using OSHPark.com which used to be the DorkbotPDX PCB service. It's sort of getting quite popular and ended up spinning of its own website apparently. My boards should be arriving sometime in the next few days I guess....

Re: Fresh Roast SR500 Coffee Roaster Computer
So it's been a while since I updated this post. At this time I've managed to get the Arduino fully controlling the roaster by itself. I need to add some buttons to give it an automatic turn off the heater and run the fan on high capability and eventually allow me to add customized roasting commands ...

Re: Fresh Roast SR500 Coffee Roaster Computer
Still working on the Arduino. I've ended up integrating PID code into the Arduino and have it running to a Serial text LCD and to a Processing sketch that graphs it on the computer screen in real time. I ended up getting a box at radio shack and wired up a TRIAC based dimmer and then connected the p...

Building PCBoards
So when you start screwing down "RadioShack" specials into a project case you start to appreciate what a good circuit board does for you. At the moment I (mostly) have a (mostly) functional device built. I haven't tested it fully with a real roast but I've done some tests controlling tempe...

Re: Arduino vs PIC32 for Roasting Computer
in the interest of being fair you can hook touchscreen lcd graphics panels up to Arduino too but usually this is much more limited for the control systems and certainly for screen update speeds. I'm sure there are exceptions but most of what I've seen for projects using PIC32 can work with a variety...

Re: Fresh Roast SR500 Coffee Roaster Computer
Ran into a weird problem with the VGDD software. All the sheets I've made don't want to compile. Any of the text seems to fail to compile unless I modify the way it builds the text. I'm not sure why I have to do that for my projects while other people don't normally have those sorts of problems. I'v...

Arduino vs PIC32 for Roasting Computer
So this is a bit unfair but I'm going to point out a few things for people that are thinking about building roast computers or systems for transmitting log data to the computer in real time or whatever. In my opinion the comparison as if a PIC32 is like a supercomputer and an Arduino is a Mac. Macs ...

Re: Fresh Roast SR500 Coffee Roaster Computer
Unfortunately it seems I accidentally left off the TRIAC driver from my last order. I now have the TRIAC, a zero cross detector, a bunch of bags of resistors, heat sinks, lots of sockets for power to be fed into and out of a case for both heat and fan separately, spools of wire to run power in and o...
